Broadened Creativity and Adaptability

Photographers can easily compose stunning images on the Vari-angle LCD monitor that they can view in a normal position fitting securely within the camera back, or swung out to be rotated or tilted. The monitor can also be stowed with the LCD panel tucked against the camera back to protect the screen when not in use. This tremendous freedom of movement, along with four Live View autofocus shooting modes, affords users the opportunity to shoot from a multitude of imaginative angles. Easy one-button Live View activation now features Subject Tracking autofocus (AF), which automatically locks onto a moving subject. Even if the subject leaves the frame and returns, Subject Tracking AF maintains focus, making the D5000 ideal for capturing fast moving children and pets. Sony's new DSC-W300 brings 13.6 megapixels to compact digital cameras

This new point and shooter hands down beats all others in the megapixel wars, packing in 13.6 pixels into a small form factor. Other features include 2.7 inch screen, 3x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, and up to ISO 6400 shots in "extra high sensitivity" mode. All this can be had for $350 in May.

Nikon has added the S600 to it's S series of compact digital cameras. The Nikon S600 is a 10Megapixel shooter with 2.7-inch LCD, 3200 ISO and optical image stabilization, but cuts the zoom to 4x and jacks the price to $299. The camera will be available in March.

Kodak to make cell phone cameras better

Kodak is doing major things with cell phone cameras. They will add functionality such as image stabilization, red-eye reduction, and face recognition to camera handsets.

Today they introduced the KAC-05020 image sensor is the world's first 1.4 micron CMOS pixel device, offering up to a 5-megapixel image resolution. The new sensor will support imagery up to ISO 3200 and support for full 720p video at 30 fps.

The sensor is also supported by the TI OMAP and OMAP-DM solutions, enabling a host of Kodak's image processing and enhancement features, including digital image stabilization, rapid auto-focus, red-eye reduction, and face recognition.

With this type of sensor for cell phones expect the next generation of camera phones to be a whole lot better.

Sony recalls 350,000 cameras

Sony announced Thursday it's recalling 350,000 digital cameras, a point-and-shoot model called the Cyber-shot DSC-T5 released in 2005, because of a problem that could cause metal on the bottom of the camera to cut or scratch the photographer.

The Japanese electronics giant will replace the part and pay shipping for free for anyone affected by the problem. The warping problem, cased by an irregularity in adhesive strength, only affects cameras with serial numbers between 3500001 and 3574100, the company said.
