DHL fails to deliver - Fake attempted delivery

Everytime I have used DHL for some reason I never receive the package. The problem is that they state they attempted delivery. When I know they didn't. It's almost like if they don't have the time they just put down attempted delivery. The reason I suspect this is they never leave a door tag. I have used USPS, Fedex, and UPS and all leave door tags each and everytime they try to deliver item. DHL does do a good job of at least getting it to the local facility but the delivers guys fail to delivery it. This is probably my 5th or 6th time that I had to go to my local DHL to pick it up when I was at home for attempted delivery. Dell is partly to blame for choosing DHL as a carrier especially with the amount of complaints they have received.

Dell Inspiron Mini 12 reviewed

Dell Mini 12 has now become official and APCMag got an exclusive review of this new Netbook.

The Inspiron Mini 12 isn’t set to please everyone. Some will slam its price tag as being too high for a netbook, and ask why you wouldn’t buy a ‘real’ notebook for that price. Others will decry the presence of Windows Vista and the 1GB memory limit, either on their own or as a pair. And we expect the battery life to raise some eyebrows and lower some credit cards.

Yet I can think of plenty of mainstream users – typically the family, friends and workmates of many APC readers – for whom this $999 netbook will really hit the sweet spot by blurring the conventional boundary of form factor and blowing apart the long-standing sub-note barrier of price.

Dell Mini 9 cheaper at Dell Outlet

All those people who were sick of waiting for the Mini 9's to ship end up in the graveyard that is Dell Outlet. When someone cancels a laptop and it's in the building stage Dell puts them up in the Outlet store. These are brand new units just ordered by someone else who canceled. If you order directly from Dell there is a 10 day building stage(and even more with delays). While the Dell Mini 9's Outet Store models are already built so all you have to do is wait a few days for it to ship instead of 10 days. Plus the prices are slightly cheaper.

HP Touchscreen Laptops, Netbook on the way

The Wall Street Journal is reporting on HP future that will encompass touchscreen notebooks, netbooks, as well as touchscreen cell phones.

HP is banking on touchscreen notebooks that will be available by years end. It will include special HP software that will support touchscreens. HP began it's touchscreen strategy with the desktop computer TouchSmart. And it's new line of notebooks and cell phones with touchscreen technology will set itself apart fromt he likes of Dell.

HP is planning to release a 10inch netbook by the end of the year according to WSJ. Netbooks have been all the craze and Acer and Asus has been creeping up on #1 HP due to the fact of these cheap mini laptops.

Finally HP is working on touchscreen cell phones with one launching this year in Europe while we in the U.S. will have to wait til sometime next year.

via the Wall Street Journal reviews Dell Mini 9

Mitchell Oke of GearDiary got a chance to check out Dell's netbook offering giving it a mostly positive review. The main thing he dislike was the awkward keyboard which from first hand experience is not so good compared to other netbooks.

Despite the keyboard problems, I really do like the Mini 9. With a bit of tweaking it’s a smooth performer that looks good, feels nice, has decent battery life, an excellent screen and is easily tossed into a bag to go with you wherever you like. I’ll have the Mini 9 for a little while longer, and I’m hoping that I can come to like the keyboard and get used to it’s ergonomic quirks.

via Small-Laptops reviews the Acer Aspire One

Over at UMPC Portal Chippy has reviewed the Acer Aspire One. His main problem with the netbook was the poor battery life.

Read his final thoughts:

The Aspire One feels like a well designed product and a pretty good start into the netbook arena for Acer. Unfortunately, there is so much competition out there right now that it seems like there might be better alternatives. When it comes down to it, the battery life is the deal breaker. The Aspire One is an attractive netbook with a great keyboard, and all the ports/features you would expect, unfortunately there are similar devices out there that can get better battery life. I still think the Aspire One is a great deal for $450, and would work great for someone who is purchasing it because of its low cost and not for mobility. Additionally, the (current) lack of 3G and Bluetooth may cause mobile warriors to start looking for a new netbook that better suits their needs.

Cashback causes price hikes on Ebay

MSN has been using incentives to use their live search engine. This is the reason they are giving Cashback(which is a kind of mail in rebate but online) to people who search and click on Cashback links. Some retailers you can get 30% off from. In particular Ebay which sellers have been using CashBack as a way to hike up prices. Basically increasing the price so that they get a higher amount. While telling you the buyer to use Cashback to get back the other money back. While you do get a decent deal you do have to wait 60-90 days to get this Cashback rebate. Honestly I am not liking this trend and can't wait til MSN stop with these Cashback offers.
